The Tsavo sister parks are Kenya’s largest, oldest, and certainly amongst the finest of the great wildlife reserves to explore on your African Safari. This private tour will keep you busy with unlimited game drives on the great expanse of Tsavo East and the scenic hills and savannah of Tsavo West. Between the two parks, all of Africa’s Big Five roam these fields and bush. This short safari is a perfect impulse getaway and no advance planning is needed. Just let us know and we’ll have you on safari in no time.

Ever hear of Tsavo lions? The adult males are famous for their appearance – they’re missing the usual mane. They are also historically fierce, as told by folklore from a hundred years past. We’ll be on the “hunt” for them in Tsavo East National Park, as well as other large and small predators throughout the vastness of this rugged reserve.

Places You’ll See :

Kenya is a country in East Africa with coastline on the Indian Ocean. It encompasses savannah, lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. It's also home to wildlife like lions, elephants and rhinos. From Nairobi, the capital, safaris visit the Maasai Mara Reserve, known for its annual wildebeest migrations, and Amboseli National Park, offering views of Tanzania's 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Schedule Details

Day 1

Nairobi – Tsavo East National Park: (320 km:  5 Hrs drive)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

06:00 hrs. – Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel, residence or Nairobi airport.

We’ll head out in our 4 x 4 Jeep for Tsavo East on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway also known as the early explorer’s route.

Day 2

TSAVO EAST – WEST (60 kms – Approx. 1 hr)

When in Tsavo East, we rise with the birds, that is, before the sun. Our early morning game drive will afford us exquisite views of the park emerging in the dawning light. In this special atmosphere, we will observe the animals as they come into the new day.

Breakfast follows at our lodge or tented camp and then we’re off again on another game drive to discover buffalo, impala, eland and some of the park’s 500 species of birds.

But soon it’s time to journey to the other Tsavo… Tsavo West. The short drive there will give us more opportunities to spot wildlife.

The look and feel of this park is different – more color, more foliage and some very green surprises like Mzima Springs. The crystal waters feeding this haven and the palm shrouded banks impart the feeling of a lush oasis. We’ll look for hippo, crocodile, exotic fish and migratory birdlife.

The park also is home to the Ngulia Rhino Sanctuary, protecting at least 80 of these endangered animals. We’ll drive through and perhaps spot some of the magnificent rhinos.

Suggestions on things to bring

GENERAL SAFARI PACKING

  • Bright summer clothes for safari tour (Strong colours can attract unwanted attention from flies found in certain areas of the parks). Laundry is cheap and available, so do not pack much in terms of clothes
  • Fuller clothes for evenings at the hotel and lodge, such as long pants and long-sleeved shirts to protect you against mosquitoes after sunset and, if necessary, against the sun
  • A jacket/sweater, as it can be cool in the early morning and evening
  • Summer Footwear (e.g. sports shoes and cotton socks). Avoid walking on bare feet and or leaving your legs naked at night due to mosquitoes
  • Power adapter with 3-4 sockets – this enables a shaver, trimmer, electric toothbrush and any batteries to be charged via a single adapter
  • Small flashlight and extra batteries
  • Hat that shields against the sun
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm
