Schedule Details

Day 1

MALINDI/WATAMU – TSAVO WEST (280 km – approx. 4.5 hrs)

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Kenya coast beach resort or hotel in a 4 x 4 Jeep for your safari journey. We’ll take the Malindi-Mariakani-Mombasa Road to Tsavo West.

The approximately 4-5-hour drive will be smooth sailing on a finished tarmac road with refreshment stops along the way.

Day 2

TSAVO WEST – AMBOSELI (100 km – Approx. 2.5 hrs)

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Safari time means early mornings so we can appreciate the breaking light over the plains and be ready to view the wildlife as it emerges into the new day.

On our game drives, we’ll head over to the lush and crystal clear Mzima Springs, a natural oasis fed by millions of gallons of underground water. We’ll be able to explore on foot, treading the green carpet of vegetation by the clear waters. Here we’ll find hippos and crocodiles, exotic fish and unusual birds.

Then it’s time to head to our next park, Amboseli. It’s a fairly short trip to Amboseli and since we’ll be here for a few days we can relax, take it easy and enjoy the picture-perfect presence of mighty Mt. Kilimanjaro overlooking the reserve.

Because the park’s foliage is sparse, our wildlife track is made easier and we’re guaranteed to spot plenty of elephants as well as many or perhaps all the Big Five.

Toward evening we’ll head to our accommodation for dinner and to relax. At this time of day we may get a glimpse of the cloud cover drifting from Kilimanjaro, revealing its snowy summit. This is a photographer’s dream and the stuff of lasting memories for all lucky enough to be here.

Day 3

Amboseli National Park

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

FULL DAY OF GAME VIEWING AT AMBOSELI

We’ll be up early to take another peek at Kilimanjaro’s summit and then we’re off on a game drive to see what the morning will bring to us.

Our early morning drive will be followed by a big, safari breakfast. Riding the hills and plains here certainly increases one’s appetite!

Then we’ll take off on a mid-morning game drive, looking for all kinds of wildlife. The park also hosts smaller mammals such as fox, hyena, monkey and yellow baboon.

We’ll enjoy a leisurely lunch at our accommodation. Take as much time as you need to relax and soak up the environment.

When you’re ready we’ll head out for an afternoon drive, appreciating the great mountain and the numerous wildlife beneath its protective gaze.

If you’d like to add a unique experience to your safari, take advantage of an optional visit to the nearby Masai village. Here you’ll meet the Maasai people and learn, first-hand about their pastoral lifestyle. Your driver/guide will be happy to make the arrangements.

Day 4

AMBOSELI – TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK (260 km – Approx. 4 hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

We’ll be up early for our last chance to view Mt. Kilimanjaro’s peak and enjoy the day’s first light upon the park. Besides elephants the reserve also enjoys sightings of lions, cheetahs, hyenas, plus zebras and wildebeests. So be on the lookout this morning to see who you can spot.

Soon, we’re ready for breakfast and then it’s time to leave the park, as we hop onto the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

We’ll reach the great expanse of Tsavo East in the afternoon. This is a big park – the largest in Kenya and it boasts lots of big game. It’s also the place of legend, where ferocious lions roam and that’s who we’ll be tracking. But there will also be plenty of time to relax as well. As always, it’s your choice of how to spend your time.

Your guide will expertly track for the best spots to find and view the animals as we end the day with an African sunset over the park.

Day 5

TSAVO EAST – MALINDI/WATAMU (160 km – Approx. 2-3 hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch

By now we are experienced safari-goers and early risers! On our dawn game drive, we’ll be looking for elephant, lion, cheetah, and whomever we can spot on the plains and at the park’s watering holes.

We’ll breakfast and then enjoy a final safari amongst Tsavo’s wild and rugged terrain. The park’s limitless horizon is always a joy to appreciate and fix within our memory.

Finally, lunch will be served at an open-air restaurant with massive vistas of the east Tsavo plains.

Suggestions on things to bring

GENERAL SAFARI PACKING

  • Bright summer clothes for safari tour (Strong colours can attract unwanted attention from flies found in certain areas of the parks). Laundry is cheap and available, so do not pack much in terms of clothes
  • Fuller clothes for evenings at the hotel and lodge, such as long pants and long-sleeved shirts to protect you against mosquitoes after sunset and, if necessary, against the sun
  • A jacket/sweater, as it can be cool in the early morning and evening
  • Summer Footwear (e.g. sports shoes and cotton socks). Avoid walking on bare feet and or leaving your legs naked at night due to mosquitoes
  • Power adapter with 3-4 sockets – this enables a shaver, trimmer, electric toothbrush and any batteries to be charged via a single adapter
  • Small flashlight and extra batteries
  • Hat that shields against the sun
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm
  • A mosquito/insect repellent for example
  • Nail clippers and file
