Journey to Kenya’s two most popular parks, spending several days at each on this medium-length African safari. This is an exciting combination of scenic parks and bountiful wildlife. World-famous Masai Mara is home to the Great Migration and a rich concentration of big cats. Amboseli is a photographer’s dream with its postcard views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and grand, majestic herds of elephants. These five days will be filled with sightings and timeless memories.

Enjoy this amazing safari in a customized pop-up roof  4×4 Safari Jeep that includes: Portable fridge/Cooler Box, 4 Binoculars, long-range high-frequency radio, Sand bags, 4G/LTE broadband WIFI connectivity, Power Outlets AC 230V, First Aid Kit, Safari Guide Books – Baby Seats and Side Steps available on request… and above all, a professional multi-lingual safari guide who will ensure you have an unforgettable safari experience.

No park in the world sees as many animals as the great Masai Mara National Reserve. A flourishing ecosystem that hosts all of Africa’s Big Five, the reserve is an exciting mix of wildlife, savannah, rolling hills, and iconic acacia trees adorning the landscape. If you’re here during the Great Migration (July – October) you’ll witness the influx of wildebeest and zebra crossing the Mara River into the park on their yearly cycle of survival – an awesome sight! Spending several days at Masai Mara brings a new appreciation for the awe and depth of nature.

Places You’ll See :

Kenya is a country in East Africa with coastline on the Indian Ocean. It encompasses savannah, lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. It's also home to wildlife like lions, elephants and rhinos. From Nairobi, the capital, safaris visit the Maasai Mara Reserve, known for its annual wildebeest migrations, and Amboseli National Park, offering views of Tanzania's 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Schedule Details

Day 1

NAIROBI – MASAI MARA  (Appx: 265kms – 5 hrs)

Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

05:00 hrs.  Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi area hotel, Nairobi airport or Nairobi area residence and head out in our 4 x 4 Jeep for the Masai Mara.

We’ll break up our drive with a stop at the town of Narok for breakfast and arrive at the Mara around mid-morning

Day 2

Masai Mara Game Reserve – full day

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We’ll be up early to enjoy the awakening day and the birdsong on the great reserve. This is a day of unlimited game drives so get ready to check off the animals on your “to see” list.

The Masai Mara features the greatest density of wildlife in this region of Africa and you’re right in the middle of the action.

Should you be here during the Great Migration (July – October) you’ll be witness to the sight of thousands of gazelle, zebra, and wildebeest streaming over the Mara River in search of sustenance.

We’ll visit the river and enjoy a picnic lunch, checking out the hippos, crocodiles and other wildlife action play out before us.

If you wish, you can take an optional visit to the local Maasai people in their village. You’ll learn about their customs, herding lifestyle, and perhaps pick up some of their beaded handiwork.

Another optional treat – an early morning hot air balloon safari over the Masai Mara! Watch the park come alive and the animals parade in their timeless migration – an unforgettable vision. Just ask your driver/guide to make arrangements.

Day 3

Masai Mara to Amboseli (520 km – Approx. 9 Hrs)

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We’ll be up before the birds on an early morning departure to Amboseli Park.

Traveling past fields and farmland, we’ll make stops along the way to appreciate Kenya’s natural scenery.

We’ll also take a lunch break to stretch and relax.

Arriving at Amboseli Park in the afternoon, there will be time for a game drive and to get acquainted with the reserve.

At the park’s southern boundary stands the towering form of Mt. Kilimanjaro, a constant presence looking over the rich variety of wildlife all about in this smaller park.

Toward evening the mountain’s snow-capped peak may be revealed as the high-altitude cloud cover can burn off, leaving us with a perfect vista of one of Africa’s most inspirational sites.

Day 4

Full Day Amboseli National park

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The day will be filled with game drives and relaxation time as well.  Just tell your driver/guide how much you’d like of each.

But we’ll be up early for a pre-breakfast safari through the park as the elephant families march to their favorite watering holes.

We’ll travel by Jeep to our favorite watering hole – our lodge or tented camp for a hearty, safari breakfast. Then we’ll fill out the morning on another relaxed game drive.

The foliage is sparse at Amboseli which makes for easier game spotting.

We’ll take an easy lunch and plan our afternoon. Your driver/guide is an expert and can discuss the different regions of the park to explore, such as its marshes, lakes or woodlands.

Toward evening, look for another wonderful African sunset and maybe the clear, snowy summit of Kilimanjaro. Have your camera ready!

Day 5

Amboseli – Nairobi

Meal plan: Breakfast, lunch

It’s our last safari morning but we’ve got plans to pack in as much as possible. We’ll start with a pre-breakfast game drive and see who else we can check off our list.

Breakfast follows, surrounded by all the beauty of nature and then another mid-morning drive through the park. There will be time to visit any spots you may have missed.

Then we’re off to Nairobi with a stop for lunch on the way.

We should arrive at about 16:30 hrs. (4:30 pm).

Suggestions on things to bring

GENERAL SAFARI PACKING

  • Bright summer clothes for safari tour (Strong colours can attract unwanted attention from flies found in certain areas of the parks). Laundry is cheap and available, so do not pack much in terms of clothes
  • Fuller clothes for evenings at the hotel and lodge, such as long pants and long-sleeved shirts to protect you against mosquitoes after sunset and, if necessary, against the sun
  • A jacket/sweater, as it can be cool in the early morning and evening
  • Summer Footwear (e.g. sports shoes and cotton socks). Avoid walking on bare feet and or leaving your legs naked at night due to mosquitoes
  • Power adapter with 3-4 sockets – this enables a shaver, trimmer, electric toothbrush and any batteries to be charged via a single adapter
  • Small flashlight and extra batteries
  • Hat that shields against the sun
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm
  • A mosquito/insect repellent for example
  • Nail clippers and file
