Ever spend a night in a tree? Gazing down upon the wildlife? You will at one of Aberdare National Park’s unique tree hotels. From your balcony, you’ll look upon the park’s game, grazing below as you snap pictures or just make personal memories. This northern 3-day safari will also visit the very special Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary – home to endangered chimpanzees and rhinos. The landscapes and wildlife at these two reserves are rich and unique from most national parks. And we can have you exploring this distinctive part of Kenya with just a call or email – no long lead time necessary.

Aberdare National Park is unique amongst Kenya’s wildlife reserves with its rainforests, waterfalls, green mountainous terrain and rugged moorlands. Here you’ll find amongst the bamboo groves and high alpine foliage buffalo, antelope, elephant, antelope – even baboon and monkey. The park also hosts a large herd of black rhino and some of the big cats like lion and the black leopard.

Places You’ll See :

Kenya is a country in East Africa with coastline on the Indian Ocean. It encompasses savannah, lakelands, the dramatic Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands. It's also home to wildlife like lions, elephants and rhinos. From Nairobi, the capital, safaris visit the Maasai Mara Reserve, known for its annual wildebeest migrations, and Amboseli National Park, offering views of Tanzania's 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Schedule Details

Day 1

Nairobi – Aberdare National Park: (160 km – Approx. 3 hours)

Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner.

08:00 hrs. – Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel, residence or Nairobi airport.

Day 2

Aberdare – Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary (160 km – Approx. 3 hrs.)

After breakfast, we’ll exit Aberdare Park and head north with views of Mt. Kenya, the country’s highest peak.

As we journey to Ol Pejeta we’ll travel through the farmland of central Kenya, passing local homesteads.

There are six resident prides of lions at Ol Pejeta and many of our guests are lucky to spot them.  The park also hosts a number of cheetah and leopards. Also, unique here, packs of African wild dogs.

You’ll also find giraffe, impala, gazelle, zebra, hippo, monkey, and baboon throughout the sanctuary.

But of special note, Ol Pejeta hosts and harbors a uniquely large population of black rhinos in a specially protected game corridor.

And perhaps one of the most unique facilities in East Africa is the park’s Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Here you’ll view rescued chimps being nourished back to health and living freely in their natural habitat. It’s the only place in Kenya where you can see and enjoy these lively creatures.

Day 3

Ol Pejeta – Nairobi (220 km – Approx.4 hrs.)

The early morning light is beautiful at Ol Pejeta and we’ll take advantage of the time and the moment, with a game drive viewing the stirring wildlife.

We’ll enjoy breakfast and then it’s time for our drive back to Nairobi.

Suggestions on things to bring

GENERAL SAFARI PACKING

  • Bright summer clothes for safari tour (Strong colours can attract unwanted attention from flies found in certain areas of the parks). Laundry is cheap and available, so do not pack much in terms of clothes
  • Fuller clothes for evenings at the hotel and lodge, such as long pants and long-sleeved shirts to protect you against mosquitoes after sunset and, if necessary, against the sun
  • A jacket/sweater, as it can be cool in the early morning and evening
  • Summer Footwear (e.g. sports shoes and cotton socks). Avoid walking on bare feet and or leaving your legs naked at night due to mosquitoes
  • Power adapter with 3-4 sockets – this enables a shaver, trimmer, electric toothbrush and any batteries to be charged via a single adapter
  • Small flashlight and extra batteries
  • Hat that shields against the sun
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm
  • A mosquito/insect repellent for example
  • Nail clippers and file
